The EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League is pleased to announce the 2017 award for “BCSPL Referee of the Year” to Inan Bakan. Following on the heels of the inaugural 2016 award winner, Mahmoud Ektefaie, the BCSPL is proud of Inan’s work officiating in the BCSPL over the course of the 2017 season. The BCSPL is also pleased to outline the enhanced Referee Development program that will be in place for 2018.
Inan Bakan has shown professionalism and commitment to officiating in the BCSPL throughout 2017. The BCSPL’s Referee Manager Igor Cvetkovski commented, “Inan is a pleasure to work with. He has officiated countless BCSPL matches in 2017 all over the lower mainland, showed great quality in those games, and his dedication to the development of his skills as an official is important to watch for anyone who is on their development pathway. Inan regularly attends BC Soccer’s candidates training program for officials, which along with officiating in the BCSPL, is a large component of his development as an official”.
The BCSPL’s General Manager Matt Holbrook added, “our league has three distinct areas of focused development, those being the players, coaches and officials that are part of our games every weekend. We are happy to acknowledge all the officials in the province who commit to our league and their development and I congratulate Inan on this award, and look forward to seeing him officiate at the League Cup finals this weekend”. All the referee assignments for this weekend’s League Cup Finals are listed below.
Acknowledging the development work that Igor Cvetkovski has put in place in the BCSPL for almost three years, the BCSPL’s Board of Governors recently approved an enhanced Referee Development program for 2018. An increase will not only occur in Igor’s time mentoring officials during BCSPL games around the province, but other mentors will be involved in supporting and working to develop officials within BCSPL game day environments. Along with increased off field education for officials, there will also be coach education classroom sessions relating to the laws of the game.
BCSPL President Alex Barnetson noted, “Our clubs take referee development seriously. We have seen an increase in the standards and professionalism of officials since Igor joined us, and our clubs are pleased to invest further in these referee development initiatives for 2018. As a leader in player and coach development, we are excited to be working to develop officials within the environments that they work”.
